Creamy Roasted Garlic Hummus Recipe

I love hummus — my whole family does. I make it often because the kids enjoy it in their school lunches, and it’s a healthy, satisfying snack alongside fresh carrots, celery, pita, or crackers. Making hummus at home is simple and much more economical than buying it premade. Homemade hummus also offers richer flavor and the freedom to customize with different ingredients for new variations.

Below are a few popular hummus variations to try in addition to the recipe on this page:

Spicy Chipotle Hummus

Roasted Red Pepper Hummus

Today’s recipe is Roasted Garlic Hummus. Roasting the garlic mellows its sharpness and brings out a sweet, caramelized flavor that pairs beautifully with chickpeas and tahini. This particular version is one of our favorites because it combines simple ingredients into a smooth, flavorful dip that’s perfect for nibbles, sandwiches, and family snacks.

If you prefer to roast peeled garlic cloves, there are straightforward methods for doing so in the oven. You can also make hummus from dried chickpeas instead of canned if you like — both approaches work well and offer slightly different textures and flavors.

For serving, I sometimes make crisp pita chips. One easy approach is to open pita buns, brush them lightly with olive oil, cut into triangles, and bake at 400°F for about 15–20 minutes or until golden and crisp. They turn out crunchy and pair perfectly with the creamy hummus.

Roasted Garlic Hummus-4

This roasted garlic hummus is extremely versatile. Serve it as a dip for vegetables and crackers, use it as a sandwich spread, or pair it with warm pita bread or crisp pita chips. Leftovers keep well in the refrigerator for several days and the flavors often deepen after resting. For a thinner texture, stir in a little extra water or olive oil. For a richer nuttier profile, add more tahini. For heat, mix in a pinch of cayenne or a dash of paprika on top before serving.

Homemade hummus is ideal for busy families because it comes together quickly, stores well, and offers a healthier alternative to many packaged snacks. Roasted garlic adds a unique depth and sweetness that transforms a simple hummus into something special — try this version the next time you want an easy, crowd-pleasing dip.
