Our Getaway in Vail
We began our stay at The Lodge at Vail, a classic hotel in the heart of Vail Village. The Lodge provides convenient valet parking (available for a nightly fee) and easy access to the village. If you prefer to avoid a valet charge, Vail also offers public parking garages within walking distance, though some walks can be brisk depending on your luggage and the weather.
Our room overlooked Cucina Rustica, the hotel’s restaurant, and featured a large balcony with mountain views. Even from the village core, the east-facing rooms look out to the hillside across I-70 rather than directly into the town, which gives a surprisingly peaceful feeling.
For lunch we walked to La Tour, a French-inspired restaurant that felt both elegant and approachable. The dining room is warm and art-filled, and the patio is lovely on a sunny day. Service and presentation are thoughtful—small touches like individual candlelight and unique table sculptures made the meal memorable.
If you want something more casual or budget-friendly, Pazzo’s pizza is a reliable favorite just steps away. Their thin, New York–style pies are perfect for a relaxed lunch. For a lively dive-bar atmosphere with live music, the Red Lion serves great wings and shareable plates. Pepi’s offers authentic German fare and a sunny patio ideal for people-watching; it’s a friendly option for lunch or an early dinner.
