2024 Update: M&M’s Crispy are no longer available, but M&M’s Crunchy Cookie candies work great in their place!
When trends from past decades return, they often bring a delicious dose of nostalgia. For me, that happened recently with M&M’s® Crispy. As a kid in the ’90s I loved the crisp, airy center wrapped in milk chocolate and a colorful candy shell. I was thrilled to see the flavor make a comeback and excited to share an easy, no-fuss recipe that highlights the crisp texture: Crispy Chocolate Bark.

This simple treat layers melted semi-sweet chocolate over vanilla wafer cookies, then tops everything with chopped M&M’s® Crispy (or a suitable substitute). The result is a crunchy, chocolatey bark that’s ideal for sharing, gifting, or keeping on the counter for an easy sweet bite. It’s also kid-friendly and quick to prepare, making it a great reward for good grades or completed chores.

Ingredients
- Vanilla wafer cookies
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips
- M&M’s® Crispy (or M&M’s Crunchy Cookie as a substitute)
Directions
- Arrange a single layer of vanilla wafers in a glass baking dish, covering the bottom evenly.
- Place the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat for 45 seconds, stir, then continue in 15-second intervals, stirring between each, until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth.
- Carefully spread the melted chocolate over the wafer layer to create an even coating.
- Lightly crush the M&M’s® Crispy candies into small pieces—small bits are best, but avoid pulverizing them into powder. For easier cleanup, put the candies in a sealed plastic bag before crushing.
- Sprinkle the crushed M&M’s evenly over the melted chocolate.
- Refrigerate the dish for 15–20 minutes, or until the chocolate has set. Break the bark into pieces or cut it with a knife and serve.

M&M’s® Crispy deliver a satisfying contrast of textures: a crisp rice center, smooth milk chocolate, and a crunchy candy shell. If you can’t find Crispy varieties locally, a crunchy or cookie-style M&M substitution will still give the bark excellent texture and flavor. The recipe is flexible—try white chocolate or dark chocolate for variation, or add a sprinkle of sea salt for a sweet-salty twist.
This Crispy Chocolate Bark makes a fun snack for family movie nights, bake sales, or last-minute hostess gifts. It’s fast to prepare, visually appealing, and a great way to enjoy the nostalgic crunch of M&M’s in a simple homemade treat.
