The cold and flu season is upon us. Rapid temperature swings—from brisk mornings to warm afternoons—challenge our immune systems and make seasonal illness more likely. I’ve been feeling those shifts myself, so I’ve been turning to a soothing, immunity-supporting drink that’s simple to make and comforting to sip: the turmeric golden-milk latte.
This warm beverage combines turmeric with complementary spices and a creamy milk base. Turmeric’s active compound, curcumin, is known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. When paired with black pepper, which may help the body absorb turmeric’s compounds, and warming spices like cinnamon and ginger, the latte becomes both flavorful and supportive on chilly or stressful days.

This drink is especially nice before bed. A warm, spiced latte can be calming, helping ease you toward sleep while delivering gentle, comforting flavors. I prefer vanilla almond milk because it adds a touch of natural sweetness and helps balance the slight bitterness of turmeric, but coconut milk or plain dairy milk also work well.

When preparing turmeric latte, keep a few practical tips in mind. Turmeric powder stains easily—protect countertops, clothes, and utensils. If you use a milk frother, froth plain milk only; mixing turmeric powder directly in a frother can stain the device. Instead, warm and mix the spices into part of the milk on the stove, then froth the remaining milk separately and combine.

Flavor notes: cinnamon brings a warm scent and additional anti-inflammatory properties; ginger adds a bright, peppery kick and has long been used to support digestion and immunity; raw honey is my favorite sweetener for this latte because it melds beautifully with the spices and offers soothing sweetness. Adjust quantities to taste, and feel free to experiment with optional spices like cardamom or cloves for added depth.

RECIPE
Preparation time: 15 minutes · Cooking time: 0 minutes · Servings: 1 cup
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 cup unsweetened almond or coconut milk (or milk of choice)
- 2 teaspoons raw honey, or to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, plus extra for sprinkling
- 1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1/8 teaspoon freshly grated ginger (or a small pinch ground ginger)
- Tiny pinch ground black pepper
- (Optional) A pinch of ground cardamom or ground cloves
INSTRUCTIONS:
- In a small saucepan, combine half of the milk with the honey, cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, black pepper, and any optional spice. Warm gently over medium heat, whisking or stirring until everything is well combined and the mixture is hot but not boiling.
- While the spiced milk warms, froth the remaining half cup of milk using a handheld frother or a frothing device. Froth plain milk only to avoid staining your equipment.
- Once the spiced milk is warm and aromatic, remove from heat. Pour into your mug, then add the frothed milk on top. Stir gently to combine where desired.
- Taste and adjust sweetness if needed. Sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon on top and serve warm. Sip slowly and enjoy the comforting aroma and flavor.
